Location: Tulsa, OK
Owner/Client: Gateway Bridge LLC; City of Tulsa
Project Size: 1/4 mile in length by 18 feet wide
Project Budget: $32 Million
Collaborators: Schlaich Bergermann Partner
In collaboration with the Bridge Engineer Schlaich Bergermann Partner, the MVVA-led design of the Williams Crossing Bridge is the first steel plate-arch bridge built in the United States. Replacing a beloved but structurally unsound railroad trestle bridge, the new long-span pedestrian bridge gracefully skips across the Arkansas River connecting the West Bank river trail with the East Bank river trail, Midland Valley Trail and the Gathering Place. Mike led the entire design team from concept design through construction documentation and into construction, while negotiating a complicated contract with the City and a private entity, and obtained both a USACE Section 404 and 408 permit. Mike provided insight to navigate the arduous TIGER grant/Buy America requirements while helping the Client raise over $6M in additional funds for the Bridge construction.
