The Riverfront Adaptive Playground is the cornerstone of a larger revitalization initiative to create public space that reconnects Main Street with the Peconic River. Envisioned as a destination playground, the play spaces are broken into distinct rooms that are held by landscape. The play space is anchored by a custom play structure inspired by the local kingfisher bird. Imaginary fishing boats, sand, spinners and swings complete a play environment that is rich in variety, textures and fun. The landscape is part of the play experience as well, where a landform provides flood protection, as well as routes for exploring, a perch to view the Peconic River and slides nestled in planting.
