Riverfront Adaptive Playground will be the cornerstone of Riverhead's downtown revitalization initiative by creating a public space that reconnects Main Street with the Peconic River.
This landscape is anchored by a custom play structure inspired by the local kingfisher bird. Imaginary fishing boats, sand, spinners and swings complete a play environment that is rich in variety, textures and fun. A large landform dually functions to provide flood protection for the play space, as well as accessible access to a viewing perch of the Peconic River with slides nestled in planting, shade for caregivers and numerous routes for exploring.
